Maria Smith is an architect, engineer, writer and curator working across disciplines to bring the built environment in line with planetary limits.
Maria is a Director at Webb Yates Engineers where she leads a transdisciplinary group focused on reducing the energy use and carbon emissions associated with the built environment.
Maria was co-chief curator of the 2019 Oslo Architecture Triennale entitled Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth that explores the architecture of a new economy based not on economic growth but social and environmental justice.
She is a trustee of the Architecture Foundation, one of the Mayor of London’s Design Advocates where she sits on the Circular Economy Sounding Board, and a nationally elected member the RIBA Council.
Maria co-founded the international series of politics and architecture debates, Turncoats, and sits on the steering group of Architects Declare, a global coalition of built environment practices who have pledged to radically reshape their practices in recognition of the climate emergency.
