Architype , Managing Director
As Managing Director of Architype, one of the UK’s leading sustainable architects, Jonathan is driven by a burning desire to create, innovate and challenge convention in order make great design that has a positive long-term impact on its local community, and the planet.
Architype grew out of the radical self-build community housing initiatives of Walter Segal in the 1980s, and social and environmental sustainability have always been at the heart or our approach, underpinned by a passion for design quality.
Jonathan is passionate about eliminating the performance gap in buildings, and this has led to Architype’s position at the forefront of building performance evaluation and monitoring in the UK, and its pioneering of Passivhaus.
Passivhaus projects including the first UK Passivhaus schools in 2010, and may schools since including the UK’s first Passivhaus Secondary schoo; a multi-award Enterprise Centre for the University of East Anglia; archive repository buildins for Herefordshire Council and the Imperial War Museum; an extra care scheme for older people in Exeter; and currently the first Passivhaus secondary and primary schools in Scotland.
Architype has also pioneered embodied carbon analysis, in particular developing the innovative ECCOLab software with a number of industry partners.
Architype works on projects throughout the UK from its offices in Edinburgh, Hereford and London.
Jonathan is also a Board member of the UK Passivhaus Trust which promotes Passivhaus around the UK.
