Nicholas Boys Smith
Create Streets , Founding Director
Nicholas Boys Smith is the founding Director of Create Streets and has run a very wide range of community engagement, urban design, co-design and projects most often working for local councils, long term landowners, local community groups or RSLs. He has written extensively and provided analysis on development, planning and the links between design with wellbeing and public support in a range of national and trade media.
Nicholas was a member of both the Government’s Design Review Panel and the Estate Regeneration Panel chaired by Lord Heseltine. He was co-chair of the Government’s Building Better Building Beautiful Commission and a member of the Government expert planning task force for the recent White Paper, Planning for the Future. He has lectured widely on urban design and the work of Create Streets in the UK, US, Ireland, Holland, Norway, Italy and Sweden.
Nicholas is also a Commissioner of Historic England, an Academician of the Academy of Urbanism and a research fellow at the University of Buckingham on urban design.
