Je is a director of Studio Weave, which he co-founded in 2007. As an architect, Je is as passionate about the social meaning of architecture as he is about the technical precision of its delivery.
Whether at the scale of individual building, landscape or urban design, Je’s unique stamp shines through in his rich portfolio of projects, which, despite logistical and financial constraints retain their rare and idiosyncratic qualities.
With decades of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, Je leads design input across all projects, working with and building strong relationships across sectors including schools, charities, hospitals, museums, local authorities and housing associations.
Studio Weave has a well-known catalogue of original civic and cultural buildings, recognised by the profession as leaders in their field. Including pavilions, public realm design and place-making strategies to 250+ unit housing schemes, the diversity of this portfolio stems from Je’s consistent curiosity and commitment to working with people, understanding places and bringing his technical expertise to bear on complex problems.
Alongside art and architecture projects, Je has led masterplans and development studies for local authorities including City of London and Hackney, institutions like the National Trust and large developers including Notting Hill Genesis translating his ‘bottom-up’ knowledge into guidelines, frameworks and policies.
His portfolio also extends to visionary and strategic level thinking; publications such as “Living Closer: The many faces of co-housing”, TfL’s “Small Change, Big Impact” and “Learning without Borders: Hull Vision 2037” explore nuanced social issues ranging from the qualitative aspects informing co-housing design, to approaches for harnessing the hidden skills and networks that can drive area-based regeneration.
Je is experienced in leading projects with multiple stakeholders, where he is especially interested in facilitating successful collaboration between the project team and a wider range of relevant partners. From integrating historic crafts to using cutting edge digital technology, he always seeks opportunities to engage with innovative solutions to the specific constraints around the delivery of projects.
Je has judged many prestigious awards for institutions such as RIBA, Architect’s Journals and Dezeen, as well as being a design review panel member in Harrow, Southwark, Brighton & Hove. Je is also a Design Council built environment expert, offering critical review of development proposals across London.
