Sustainability at the AJ100 Awards 2024

The AJ100 Awards 2024 are on a journey to become more sustainable and we thought we’d share some of the efforts we’re making in response to the climate action. It is increasingly important in our world that we come together to celebrate the achievements of so many, but we must do so in a way that is as environmentally responsible as possible.

AJ100 awards and survey

Promoting sustainable practices is at the forefront of the AJ100 judges’ deliberations, with factors such as whole-life carbon, community impact, and inclusive employment policies regular topics of intense debate.

Award categories such as Sustainability Champion of the Year and Sustainability Initiative of the Year are also designed to bolster those at the forefront of the industry-wide effort to respond to the climate emergency. For 2024, our awards programme has been revised to highlight even further those individuals driving positive change in the profession, with the introduction of new categories such as the AJ100 Champions cohort, Mentor of the Year, and the New Talent celebration of architectural assistants and emerging architects.

As well as measuring practice size, the AJ100 survey provides a telling snapshot of attitudes towards sustainability, from carbon footprint calculations to B Corp participation and practice diversity.

The venue

Honourable Artillery Company constantly looks at the available opportunities to become a more sustainable venue year on year. Some of these measures include moving away from traditional fuels and increasing our use of more sustainable fuel methods; keeping plastic waste to a minimum and where unavoidable ensuring 100% of it is recycled; and ensuring that on average 90% of our staff travel to the venue by public transport.

The menu

To tie in with our goals as a venue, our caterer, create food designs dishes to suit our clients' needs, whilst sourcing only the highest quality seasonal and sustainable ingredients from locally sourced suppliers. They are also introducing a fully electric fleet of vehicles to reduce their carbon footprint.
