Sustainability at the AJ100 Awards 2026
AJ is working with isla to measure the carbon footprint of this event, taking recommendations on how to improve our performance and impact on the environment. We will publish the results of this report after the event.
Our company commitment to sustainability at events can be found below:
Our event attendees
Swag. We ask to keep this to a minimum with the aim to use sustainable/recyclable or compostable materials.
No ‘single use’ bottles. We encourage attendees to bring their own reusable bottles and provide water stations for refilling these.
Getting to our events. Directions for public transport only are detailed on this website.
Our event suppliers
The Architects’ Journal chooses its suppliers with a bias towards those partners who take sustainability seriously.
Event collateral, signage and exhibition stands
Our event guide programmes and tickets are electronic instead of printed. The signage we use is from Insite Graphics which holds ISO14001 certification. Event signage is all either recyclable, reusable, or used to provide community power when disposed of – none will go to landfill. All the ink is water-based and much of our signage is moving to carboard-based alternatives, recyclable in generic paper waste collections. For more information click here.
AV supplier
We have chosen our AV supplier based on their positive sustainability policy, which you can read here.
Couriers
We request electric vehicles for our preferred couriers Santis Global. For more information click here.
Transport
Employees are encouraged to take public transport to event or to travel using our ‘uber green’ company account.
Lanyards
Where possible, we will source lanyards that are made from sustainable materials such as bamboo, and we aim for these to be returned, disinfected and reused.
We need to work harder
This section of the website isn’t just dedicated to shouting about how great we are for doing what we should have been doing all along. We need to do better. We would love to hear from you on how you think we could improve. Please email any awards suggestions to aj100.awards@emap.com You can also complete the post-event survey which will be emailed to you after the event.
The AJ100 Awards 2026 are on a journey to become more sustainable and we thought we’d share some of the efforts we’re making in response to the climate action. It is increasingly important in our world that we come together to celebrate the achievements of so many, but we must do so in a way that is as environmentally responsible as possible.
AJ100 Awards and survey
Promoting sustainable practices is at the forefront of the AJ100 judges’ deliberations, with factors such as whole-life carbon, community impact, and inclusive employment policies regular topics of intense debate.
Award categories such as Sustainability Leader of the Year and Climate Initiative of the Year are also designed to bolster those at the forefront of the industry-wide effort to respond to the climate emergency. Our awards programme highlights those individuals driving positive change in the profession, including categories such as the AJ100 Champions cohort,
Mentor of the Year, and the New Talent celebration of architectural assistants and emerging architects. As well as measuring practice size, the AJ100 survey provides a telling snapshot of attitudes towards sustainability, from carbon footprint calculations to B Corp participation and practice diversity.
The venue
Honourable Artillery Company constantly looks at the available opportunities to become a more sustainable venue year-on-year. Some of these measures include moving away from traditional fuels and increasing the use of more sustainable fuel methods; keeping plastic waste to a minimum and where unavoidable ensuring 100% of it is recycled; and ensuring that on average 90% of staff travel to the venue by public transport.
The menu
To tie in with our goals as a venue, our caterer, create food designs dishes to suit our clients' needs, whilst sourcing only the highest quality seasonal and sustainable ingredients from locally sourced suppliers. They are also introducing a fully electric fleet of vehicles to reduce their carbon footprint.
